Arad, April 2017 On April 4, 2017, the closing conference of the project “Stopping the Extension of Invasive Plant Species in Lunca Mures – Natural Park – SESIL” is taking place. The event is organized at Hotel Central Arad, starting at 10:30. The project “Stopping the Extension of Invasive Plant Species in Lunca Mureşului – SESIL Natural Park” had an eligible budget of 400,000 Euros was financed by the European Economic Area (EEA) Financial Mechanism, based on the Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Iceland, the Principality Liechtenstein, the Kingdom of Norway and the Government of Romania. This project is part of the RO 02 Program “Biodiversity and ecosystem services” and has as promoter the Natural Park Administration of the Mureş Meadow, and as partners “Aurel Vlaicu” University Arad and Arad Development Center Association. The objectives of the Project were: • Quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the negative effects on the agro-forest ecosystems and the habitats of community interest generated by the extension of the invasive plant species in the Lunca Mureş Natural Park; • Rehabilitation of agro-ecosystems in the Lunca Mureş Natural Park affected by the worrying spread of invasive plant species, especially Amorpha fruticosa (dwarf acacia); • Awareness of the public about the negative effects of expanding invasive plant species and practicing intensive farming, to the detriment of sustainable agriculture. The Project Coverage Area was: Lunca Mureş Natural Park, within the Arad, Pecica, Semlac, Şeitin, Nadlac, Zădăreni, Felnac, Secusigiu, Periam, Saravale, Sânnicolau Mare and Cenad. SESIL symposium – Halting the expansion of invasive plant species in the Mureș Floodplain Natural Park

Wishing to disseminate the project results regarding the expansion halting of invasive species of plants in Mureş Floodplain Natural Park, the project with the same name, financed by Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) program RO02 Biodiversity and ecosystem services, with the project promoter Administration Floodplain Natural Park Mures, partner 1 University “Aurel Vlaicu” of Arad and partner 2 Arad Development Center, was held in Arad on March 23, 2017 in the conference room of the University “Aurel Vlaicu” Arad a scientific symposium . They expressed interest in numerous specialists in biodiversity conservation: Hungarian National Park “Cris-Mures”, Scientific Council of Mures Floodplain Natural Park, Advisory Board Mures Floodplain Natural Park, Forestry Department of Timis County, Forestry Department of Arad County, National Research Institute & Development in Forestry “Marin Dracea”, University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Banat, King Michael I of Romania Timisoara, West University of Timisoara, West University “Vasile Goldis”, Arad  County Environmental Protection Agency, Timis County Agency Environmental Protection,  Guard Environment – Commissioner Arad County,  Environmental Guard – Timis County Commission, Excelsior Association Arad, Propark – Foundation for protected areas. The Ministry of Environment – Biodiversity Directorate was present in Arad by . Roxana Ionescu. In the afternoon of the same day the project team together with the guests traveled to the field to see a working demonstration of agricultural machinery in order to release land by invasive plants and to put into practice the principles of sustainable agriculture....

On 29 October 2015 conference was held to launch the project “Halting the expansion of invasive species of plants in the Mureș Floodplain Natural Park – SESIL“. The event was held at Hotel Central Arad, from 11:00. With support from the EEA Financial Mechanism 2009 -2914, based on the Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and the Government of Romania, Mureș Floodplain Natural Park Administration receive a grant of 999 790 EURO. This funding is granted for a period of 8 months starting in September 2015 bound for implementation of the project ” Halting the expansion of invasive species of plants in the Mureș Floodplain Natural Park – SESIL “. This project part of the program RO 02 “Biodiversity and ecosystem services” and its the promoter is Mureș Floodplain Natural Park Administration, and as partners “Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad and Association Arad Development Center. Project objectives are: – Quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the negative effects on ecosystems and agro-forestry habitats of community interest arising from the expansion of invasive species of plants in the Mureș Floodplain Natural Park; – The rehabilitation of agro-ecosystems in Mures Floodplain Natural Park alarming expansion affected by the invasive plant species, particularly Amorpha fruticosa (dwarf acacia); – Consciousness of the public about the negative effects of invasive species of plants and expansion of intensive agriculture to the detriment of development. Coverage of the project is: The administrative territory of Arad and Timis counties, lower meadow of the Mures River, across localities Arad, Pecica, Semlac, Seitin, Nădlac, Zădăreni, Felnac, Secusigiu, Periam, Saravale Sânnicolau Mare and  Cenad.
