Issues concerning research stage of halting invasive species of plants in the Mureș Floodplain Natural Park

Within the project “Halting expansion of invasive species of plants in the Mureș Floodplain Natural Park” (www.sesil.eu), one of the asset is developing a strategy to combat invasive species in this area activity that is in charge a team of specialists from the University “Aurel Vlaicu” of Arad. The research was carried out during November 2015 and is currently ongoing and consisted of bibliographic documentation and field studies. This work resulted in a strategy that will be published with ISBN and disseminated on future project activities.

The strategy includes analysis of terrestrial invasive plant species (ITPS) in Mureș Floodplain Natural Park, with reference on three species: Amorpha fruticosa, Acer negundo and Fallopia japonica.

The main measures proposed in attention:
a) awareness of the phenomenon of invasion of alien species, aspect influencing native diversity in many regions of the globe;
b) avoid the introduction of invasive alien species;
c) decrease of unintentionally introduced species and preventing unauthorized introduction of alien species;
d) in case of intentional introduction of species, with scientific purpose, the impact on biodiversity should be evaluated;
e) implementation and development of programs to combat and control invasive alien species;
f) establishing appropriate national legislative framework and international cooperation aimed at regulating the introduction, the combat and the control of invasive alien species;
g) to intensify research in this area, developing a database of alien species with invasive potential.
